Effect of Beauveria bassiana-Seed Treatment on Zea mays L. Response against Spodoptera frugiperda

چکیده

Spodoptera frugiperda is a widely distributed insect pest that causes major economic losses in various crops, particularly maize. On the other hand, Beauveria bassiana an entomopathogenic fungus establishes symbiotic associations with many plants and contributes to tolerance against biotic abiotic stresses. In present work, laboratory experiments, effects of B. strain GHA, addition native (PTG4), delivered via seed treatment maize seedlings, were evaluated on S. growth, development, mortality. We inoculated seeds 1 × 106B. blastospores; then these germinated grown seedlings under growth chamber conditions. Third-instar larvae allowed feed bassiana-treated -untreated (negative control) until reaching sixth instar transferred artificial diet adult stage. Results showed feeding PTG4-treated prolonged their larval Furthermore, treated strains yielded fewer male moths compared untreated control plants. Under field conditions, 106 (first trial) 108 (second (GHA strain) blastospores used for corn inoculation. first trial, there higher number negative those bassiana. No found second trial. conclusion, reduced infestation trials. development was also affected

Maize (Zea mays L.).

Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation is an effective method for introducing genes into maize. In this chapter, we describe a detailed protocol for genetic transformation of the maize genotype Hi II. Our starting plant material is immature embryos cocultivated with an Agrobacterium strain carrying a standard binary vector. In addition to step-by-step laboratory transformation proced...

Sequential sampling protocols for Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), on Zea mays fields: influence of sampling unit size.

Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) is a major pest in maize fields in Argentina. However, a sampling method that accounts for spatial pattern and allows reliable pest density estimations is still lacking. This paper addresses the issue of how sampling unit size can influence the characterization of S. frugiperda spatial pattern and the performance of sampling plans. An intensive sampling progra...

Effect of seed size on germination and early growth of maize (Zea mays)

The effect of seed size on germination and early growth of maize plant, was examined within three weeks to determine the best seed size require for planting. The larger size seed produced significant growth compared to medium size and small size. The seedling height, seedling width, and seedling biomass increased in larger size seed. The significant growth observed in larger size seed showed th...

B chromosomes in popcorn (Zea mays L.).

Cytological analysis of microsporogenesis in 72 popcorn plants, comprising nine from the original population (CMS-43, S(0)) and 63 from seven cycles of self-fertilization (S(1) to S(7)), one plant of S(0) generation (plant 2) was identified with B chromosomes. The number of B chromosomes varied from two to three in the same anther. The pattern of chromosome pairing and meiotic behavior of Bs we...
